The campsite was great in all ways except one - you're quite close to other campers so there is a lot of noise coming from all around. But lots of good factors, each campsite has it's own water spout. The wood they provide is nicely sectioned for making a fire (easy to break with a hatchet). The washrooms were clean and the showers were great ( you need to buy a shower token at the front desk).
My family of 4 is planning to return later this month to try out one of their cabins and look forward to coming back next year.
1. EXTREMELY rude management!! I'm assuming they won't even be phased by this scathing review
They left us no choice but to leave the lot (with no refund) so we went back up to the lot and discussed the issue with our neighbors who were very friendly! They were fine with parking their cars (since that's all they needed #46 for) on #44, we chatted for a few, and all was well. It was that easy!! Very friendly campers, awful staff.
Have never been treated so rudely. When we arrived we were unhappy with our site (#48). Lot had almost zero trees and was situated ON THE ROAD above the quarry. Luckily we were able to switch to lot #45. We get there and there's already a family camping there so we camped on lot #46 for the first night. Next morning- swing by the office to grab brochures and we're abruptly told we had to move lots. EXTREMELY rude management. Both women, one was new, were raising their voices, saying we had to move, were being spoken to like we were idiots, and were told that the family who reserved 46 wanted a refund, so on. Let me remind you, it was/ is none of the guest's fault for the management's poor planning nor were either families offered some sort of refund for their troubles. Maybe upgrade to a computer system if you can't manage writing reservations in a book.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pool was great because it was heated, which on a cool Maine evening was welcomed.
NEVER coming here again and until things are changed around the campground I will continue to NOT recommend it to friends and family.
I spent five days here and overall enjoyed my stay. The bathrooms were nice and we never ran into any issues. It is really just an average campground, nothing crazy. It overlooks Some Sound and the view is pretty good. The Ice is overpriced as well as the showers, ($1 for 5 minutes). In conclusion, do your research for campgrounds on the island. This one isn't perfect but there just might not be a perfect campground so close to Acadia National park.
Bear with my novel, it is well worth the read.
May I repeat why?..
3. Poor camp sites. Some are located ON THE GRAVEL ROAD- little to no privacy
We ended up leaving a night early we were so unhappy with the place. At that point who cared if we lost the $40! Never in my life have I absolutely DREADED being around certain people. Having to go into the office to browse brochures, get tokens for the shower, etc was awful.
This Campground is clean and well laid out. Bathrooms and showers were also clean and provided plenty of warm water. (Be sure to buy your shower tokens at the office)
**Disorganized and ill-mannered**
I stayed here for a few nights and was very pleased. It's close to many parts of Acadia National Park. The bathhouse was clean and each campsite has its own water spigot which is nice. Be advised: showers cost a dollar for five minutes.
If you've made a reservation and are now reading the google reviews after the fact, CANCEL IT NOW!!! God please save your time and camp elsewhere!
2. Camp closer to Bar Harbor. Most of the attractions are near there
